Buildup Leads to Breakthrough

I have been thinking a lot this weekend about the beauty of springtime and how it’s very gradual. The blooming and growth are seen in little buds and blossoms and then one day you wake up and all the trees have suddenly transformed. We had a particularly long and cold winter this year.

A common thread this winter that came up in my mind over and over again is:

“…build-up leads to breakthrough.”

I have been learning that breakthroughs come through struggle and trial. The personal and professional breakthroughs and growth I’ve experienced this past quarter came through a lot of long hours, sleepless nights, prayers, long walks, and focus. But when they have happened, what came first was the storm.

There’s an idea in the Bible that I have come to appreciate. It’s in the New Testament book of First Peter:

“…the trial of your faith is more precious than gold.”

I have come to value the struggles and the trials. I let them run their course and ride out the storm. The breakthroughs and growth I have experienced are invaluable to me now. And this had led to a type of resilience that has to be earned and waited for.

Last August I made the hard choice to leave Nashville and relocate myself and my company to St. Louis. I have doubted my decision many times as we all know that starting over in a new city is now easy. But what I have encountered in reprioritizing and refocusing my life has been so amazing.

And this morning as I took a very long walk in a beautiful park near my apartment, I could see all the trees and flowers blooming. They too had been waiting for the beautiful breakthrough of spring.
